We hope you will purchase a Country First Ribbon to show your support of Sen. John McCain for President and Gov. Sarah Palin for Vice President and help the MCLEF in their work to provide educational scholarships for children of Marines and Federal law enforcement personnel killed while serving our country, and others killed at the Pentagon on 9/11….all of whom, it can be said, served their Country First.
This elegant and commemorative Country First Ribbon is designed by Tulle Hat Company’s CEO, Kathleen (Strank) Kasper, niece of Iwo Jima flag raiser, Sgt. Michael Strank USMC. Sgt. Strank was one of the 6 servicemen who raised the flag on Iwo Jima on February 23, 1945, an event immortalized in the famous photograph that changed the course of WWII in the Pacific. Sgt. Strank was killed on Iwo Jima a week later, he was 25 years old. The story of the 6 flag raisers is told in James Bradley’s book “Flags of Our Fathers” and Clint Eastwood’s film based on the book.
Purchasing a ribbon will show your support for Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain who, like Sgt. Strank, served in the military and sacrificed much for our country, and will contribute to the outstanding work of the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation. The website www.mclef.org describes the foundation’s work:
Through the continuous support of our donors, we have distributed aid with a value of more than $33,000,000.00 to eligible children. This assistance was primarily rendered to children of Marines or Federal law enforcement personnel who were killed on duty or died under extraordinary circumstances while serving our country at home or abroad. These funds enable us to provide these children with scholarships for their higher education… We have also provided scholarship assistance for children whose circumstances were not always within our normal scholarship program, including 141 children of members of the Army, Navy or Department of Defense, whose parent perished during the murderous attack on the Pentagon on 9/11…
The Country First Ribbon is made and embroidered in the USA and features an American flag lapel pin. To recognize the donation to the MCLEF, the Country First Ribbon also features an Iwo Jima flag raising lapel pin from the VFW Headquarters in Kansas City, MO. The supplier of the Iwo Jima pin is retired Army First Sergeant Tim Borland with 28 years of service including two tours in Iraq, one in Dessert Storm and one in Korea and Bosnia.
